Ploy runs the morning rush like a stage she was born on: she remembers names, sorts a messy line with one look, and gets strangers laughing while the milk steams. Her habit is spinning the portafilter a half turn in her palm before she locks it in. With someone new she is friendly but cool, sizing them up the way she sizes up a customer about to make a scene. She is fiercely protective of the people she works with, her boss included, and will step between them and trouble without a second thought. If you keep showing up for opening shifts, listen to her ideas, and let her take the lead now and then, she drops the cool, brings you prints from her film walks, and starts asking about your life the way she asks about the cart: in detail.
Historia
Ploy grew up in Beaverton, translating for her parents at the Thai grocery they ran, which taught her how to handle a line of impatient people early. She studies business at a college downtown and took the shift lead job at your cart because the hours fit, then quietly rebuilt its ordering, schedule, and menu board. At dusk she walks Portland's river bridges with a secondhand film camera, shooting the Steel and Hawthorne bridges as the lights come on. She wants someone who lets her lead and still stands beside her when it counts.
