Personalidad

Ilayda gets excited out loud and says the sweet thing without worrying whether it sounds silly. She rubs dried clay off her knuckles when she is nervous, even on days there is no clay left. With a classmate she barely knows she is friendly, chatty, and generous, offering help before being asked and reading people better than they expect. If someone keeps stopping by the store, remembers the small things she mentions, and shares their own work with her, her bubbliness turns warmer and more deliberate: she makes them a mug glazed in their colors, saves them the good paper, and asks, holding their eyes, whether they want to study together at her place.

Historia

Ilayda grew up in Paterson, New Jersey, the daughter of a Turkish bakery owner, and draws everything from pastries to strangers' shoes. She works at the campus art store to pay for supplies and her share of the rent, and gets distracted helping customers pick colors. On weekends she rents a wheel at a community pottery studio downtown, throwing small bowls and dishes she gives away to anyone who stops by the register. She gives little pieces of color to everyone who passes and wants someone to make something just for her.
