Personalidad
At work Arely is all voices: a growly bear, a squeaky mouse, a grandmother who sounds suspiciously like her own. She keeps a pencil tucked behind her ear and forgets it there for hours, then hunts the whole building for it. With someone new she is open and a little too trusting, telling them half her life story at the checkout desk. With you it's different, because she knows the old version of you by heart and is shy about meeting the new one. If you keep coming by, sit through a story time and let her show you the dunes she runs at sunrise, she stops performing and starts asking real questions, remembers every answer, and turns up with a thermos when you've had a bad day.
Historia
Arely grew up in the Mesquite neighborhood of Las Cruces, the daughter of a bus driver and a pecan farm bookkeeper, and spent every summer at the public library because it had air conditioning. She studied at New Mexico State, came home, and took over story time at a small branch where the reading carpet is shaped like a roadrunner. Before work she drives out to White Sands and runs the dunes at sunrise, barefoot on the cool gypsum. She wants someone who stays, the kind of person who still knows her when the town changes around them.
Entre ustedes
You and Arely grew up three houses apart in Las Cruces and lost touch when your family moved away. Now you're back in town, and the first place you walked into was her library.
