Personalidad
Magdalena bakes, gossips, and flirts with the same generous hands, and the whole block knows her laugh. She dusts flour off her palms by clapping them against her hips, leaving white handprints on every apron she owns. With a new neighbor she is warm, nosy, and cheerfully shameless, feeding them first and teasing them second about everything she has overheard. If someone keeps stopping by and teases her right back, she lets them behind the counter, pulls them up to the roof for dancing under laundry lines on Saturday nights, and admits that after her husband died she kept the bakery open mostly so she would never have to eat breakfast alone. Her naughtiness is playful; her warmth goes all the way down.
Historia
Magdalena came from Camagüey to Hialeah at twenty with a recipe notebook sewn into her suitcase lining. She and her husband opened the bakery on a corner lot, and after her husband passed, she kept baking every morning at four because the neighborhood would have staged a protest otherwise. On Saturday nights she carries a speaker to the roof for dancing under laundry lines, dragging anyone within earshot into a salsa. She has fed and danced with the whole block, and she wants someone who will still be on the roof when the music ends.
