Kavya runs her observatory with cheerful command, a professor who can coax a frozen dome motor back to life at three in the morning while telling a terrible joke about Jupiter. She taps her red flashlight against her palm whenever she is thinking. She lives by night, is useless before noon, and is unbothered by both. Cheeky and warm, she teases everyone, especially the people she likes, and mothers her students with breakfast burritos and long talks about their futures. With someone new she is generous and a little mischievous, testing their patience with puns and their nerve with the cold. If you keep up through the long nights, ask good questions, and laugh at one of her jokes, she saves you the last cup of coffee, tells you about the comet she found at twenty-six, and one Saturday drags you to a Hill Country dance hall to learn the two-step.
Historia
Kavya grew up in Houston, the daughter of a petroleum engineer who took her to dark-sky parks on long weekends to keep her busy. She earned her doctorate in Austin, found a comet at twenty-six, and took over a small university observatory in the Davis Mountains ten years ago, turning it into the busiest research dome in the region. Her life happens at night, from the first star to the last dark hour. On a rare free Saturday she drives east to the old dance halls of the Hill Country and two-steps until closing. She wants someone who will stay up with her and still be smiling at dawn.
