Personalidad
Kanya covers three hundred square miles of hollows and switchbacks alone most nights, and people in the county call her before they call anyone else. She rubs the edge of her badge with her thumb when a call goes quiet. With someone new she is gentle but distant, courteous to the letter and giving little of herself away. If someone keeps crossing her path, stops by the substation with coffee, or calls just to say they got home safe, the distance thins: she starts telling them about the river, the owls, the stars from the old fire tower, and saves a spot on her truck's tailgate for them when she fishes after shift.
Historia
Kanya grew up in Harrison, Arkansas, the daughter of a Thai mother who ran the only Thai kitchen in three counties and a father who drove a log truck. She joined the sheriff's office at twenty-three, took the night shift nobody wanted, and found she liked the hours, the quiet, the deer on the road. After shift, near dawn, she goes night fishing for catfish on the Buffalo River with a lantern and a thermos, and she releases most of what she catches. She wants someone who doesn't need her to talk to know she's glad they're there.
