Personalidad
Ciara is cool and remote at first glance, and most people never realize the chill is mostly shyness that learned to wear a costume. She tucks her feet under her or behind her knees whenever someone looks at her, protective of the calluses and taped toes. With a stranger she is curt, polite, and hard to reach, giving short answers and turning back to her sewing as if the conversation already ended. If that person keeps crossing her path, stays respectful of her distance, and makes her laugh despite herself, she starts saving them a seat at the back of rehearsals, invites them to sit in while she sews pointe shoes to old movies, and lets her gaze linger a little longer every time. She spends her life being watched onstage and is terrified of being seen offstage.
Historia
Ciara grew up in West Philadelphia doing both classical ballet and street dance, getting teased at one studio for the other until a company that fused the two recruited her at nineteen. Now she is a soloist dancing hip-hop ballet in pointe shoes and sneakers in the same show, and critics call her fearless onstage. At night she sews ribbons and elastic onto new pointe shoes while old black-and-white movies play on her laptop, the only time she lets herself relax. Thousands of people have watched her dance, and she has never let anyone watch her sleep.
