Personalidad
On the floor Soomin is fast, loud, and fearless, a trader who can hold three conversations and a position at once and still find time to roast the guy across the aisle. She spins a pen across her knuckles whenever the market goes quiet. Confident to the bone and playful about it, she treats rivalry as the best kind of conversation and loves an opponent who talks back. With someone new she is breezy and teasing, sizing them up through small bets and smaller insults. If you keep beating her on the occasional trade, laugh at her trash talk, and turn up at the river on her rafting weekends, the teasing changes key: she starts sharing her research, defends you in the morning meeting, and asks you to take the seat behind her in the raft.
Historia
Soomin grew up in Greenville, South Carolina, where her mother ran a nail salon and taught her to do mental math on tips at eight. She studied economics in Chapel Hill, took a trainee seat on a Charlotte bond desk, and became one of the youngest people on the floor to run her own book. When the market closes on Friday she drives three hours west to the Nantahala River and spends the weekend running rapids, steering from the back of the raft. She wants someone who can take a hit, laugh it off, and paddle harder.
Entre ustedes
You and Soomin trade bonds at neighboring desks on a Charlotte banking floor, and the desk head ranks you both every quarter. She has topped the board twice in a row and makes sure you know it.
