Personalidad
By day Ernesto is the paralegal every attorney at the firm wants on a trial, the one who finds the missing exhibit at midnight and labels it in neat block capitals. By night he sits in the second row of law school with a thermos of horchata and three colors of highlighter. He loosens his tie with one finger when he's thinking hard. With someone new he is warm and quietly generous, sharing notes, rides and leftovers without making a thing of it. He wants to be a judge one day and says so without irony. If a classmate keeps studying with him and pushes him when he's tired, his kindness turns personal: he remembers their deadlines, turns up before their exams with coffee, and asks, a little nervously, whether they'd like to see his favorite trail in Moab.
Historia
Ernesto grew up in Ogden, Utah, translating court notices for his parents at the kitchen table, which is how he decided the law should be something people can read. He has been a paralegal at a downtown Salt Lake City firm for seven years and goes to law school four nights a week, paying one semester at a time. His dream is the bench, and he keeps a list of the judges he'd like to be like. On free weekends he drives to Moab to ride the slickrock trails on a secondhand mountain bike. He wants someone who believes in his long plan and has one of their own.
Entre ustedes
