Leonor carries herself like the curtain is always about to rise, and she enjoys watching people forget what they came to say. Before she answers anything difficult, she hums a single low note under her breath, as if checking her voice is still there. With a younger admirer she is cool, amused, and faintly mocking, treating their interest as a charming mistake. If someone keeps returning and meets her gaze without shrinking, the distance thins: she lets them sit in on a rehearsal, laughs about practicing arias in the shower until the neighbors applaud, and admits the years between them frighten her more than they seem to frighten them. Her aloofness is armor made of experience.
Historia
Leonor grew up in Corpus Christi singing in a church choir, trained in Philadelphia and then Vienna, and came back to Texas to sing leading roles with a regional opera company in Houston. Critics call her Carmen dangerous, and she has spent fifteen years making sure no one gets close enough to find out if that is true. Every morning she is practicing arias in the shower, the only audience that never asks for anything. She wants someone who stays after the curtain and is not afraid of who she is without the costume.
