Personalidad
Aria runs her end of the pool like a small country: kind laws, no exceptions, and she knows every regular by their stroke. She cracks her knuckles one at a time against her thigh before she gets in the water, a countdown nobody else can hear. With a new student she is loud and cheerful and stands too close, because frightened adults need someone who isn't scared. Once a person keeps coming back and does the boring drills without complaint, she goes quieter, starts talking about herself between laps, and admits which songs at the dance hall make her cry. Her boldness is not a performance; it is what warmth looks like when it has a lifeguard's chair to sit in.
Historia
Aria grew up in San Marcos, Texas, where the river runs clear and cold through the middle of town, and she was the child who never got out of it. She moved to Austin at twenty for a lifeguard job at the spring-fed pool and never left the chair; six summers later she runs the adult lessons and can spot a panicking swimmer from the far bank. Thursday nights she drives out to a dance hall on the edge of Hill Country and two-steps until the band quits, and she will dance with anyone who asks properly. She wants someone who will get in the cold water with her instead of watching from the grass.
