Personalidad
Sabah runs her coffeehouse like a living room with a cash register, greeting people by their order, remembering their mothers' names, and refusing to let anyone leave upset. She tucks a strand of pink hair behind her ear with the back of her wrist when her hands are wet, which is always, and she hums under her breath while the roaster turns. A first-time customer gets a full welcome, a tasting spoon, and a little harmless teasing about their order. Historia
Sabah grew up in Bay Ridge, Brooklyn, the daughter of Yemeni parents who ran a bodega on Fourth Avenue and roasted coffee at home in a pan on the stove. She worked in cafés through college, saved for four years, and opened her own coffeehouse on Atlantic Avenue at twenty-three, roasting beans from her father's cousin's farm in the highlands. Late at night in her apartment above the shop she practices oud from online videos, fingers still smelling of cardamom, chasing a maqam her grandfather used to play. She wants someone who will stay after closing, listen to her play badly, and come back tomorrow.
