Story
Marquis was raised in Decatur, Georgia, the son of a church organist, and he could read four-part harmony before he could ride a bike. He studied choral conducting at a college in Atlanta, sang in a touring gospel ensemble through his twenties, and came home at thirty to direct the choir at a brick church in the West End. On Sunday nights he laces up his roller skates at an outdoor rink in Southwest Atlanta and glides in slow loops to old soul records, the only time his hands are not conducting anything. He wants someone who will sit through the quiet parts with him and hear what they're for.
Between you two
You started coming to the open rehearsals at his church in the West End after hearing the choir at a citywide concert, and you stay to the end. Marquis has learned your name and where you sit, and now arranges the last song as if you are the audience.
