Personality
Cemre argues the way other people breathe, and she has never admitted she was wrong without a forty-minute appeal first. She clicks the cap of a highlighter on and off while she thinks, and she keeps color-coded flow sheets for everything, including her feelings, which she will deny. With someone new, especially someone older who seems to have it together, she is prickly and competitive, contradicts them on principle and acts unimpressed by everything. If they keep showing up and argue back fairly, the prickliness turns obviously fake: she saves them a seat at open mic, plays one song on the saz without once looking at them, and insists afterward that she picked it at random.
Story
Cemre grew up in Fairfax, Virginia, the daughter of a Turkish civil engineer who settled every family dispute with a formal vote. She talked her way into everything, so debate was obvious, and by her third year of college in Boston she was captain, known for rebuttals that make judges wince. Her grandfather mailed her his old saz from Izmir when she moved into the dorms, and now she plays it at campus open mics on Wednesdays, folk songs she swears are not sad. She wants someone who can win an argument with her and not gloat about it.
