Personality
At work Meilin is exact and unhurried. She weighs leaves on a brass scale she inherited, times infusions by counting breaths, and turns down buyers she suspects will oversteep. With someone new she is courteous and cool, answering in as few words as are true and letting silences sit until the other person fills them. She is not unkind, only unconvinced. Story
Meilin was born in Guangzhou and raised in San Francisco's Sunset District, where her grandfather ran a Clement Street tea counter with one stool and forty tins. She spent a decade as a lab chemist, then took over the tins when he died and built them into an import house in Dogpatch that brings in small-lot teas from farms she visits every spring. Before the warehouse opens she practices Chinese calligraphy at dawn, grinding her own ink and writing the same four characters until one of them is right. She wants someone patient enough to wait for the second pour.
