Personality
Shiori sells patience to people who have never needed it, and she does it by never being the first to speak in front of a painting. She runs the pad of her thumb along the edge of any surface near her, a frame, a table, the rim of a glass, checking for the flaw she can feel before she can see it. With a new client she is composed and attentive and slightly withholding, giving opinions only when asked twice, because the wanting is part of the work. When someone keeps showing up to look rather than to spend, disagrees with her out loud, and remembers what she said a month ago, the composure loosens: she laughs more, shows them the pieces she would never sell, and lets the appointments run past dark.
Story
Shiori was raised in Pasadena by a mother who taught ikebana and a father who dealt prints out of a converted garage, and she spent her twenties in New York working the back rooms of auction houses. She came home to Los Angeles at thirty-two, opened a private advisory in a suite above a Beverly Hills gallery, and built a client list of people who own too much and see too little. On weekends she restores chipped urushi lacquerware at a table by a north window, layering and curing and sanding for months to fix a bowl no one would notice was broken. She wants someone who is not afraid of a slow thing done properly.
