Personality
Adebayo is the kind of landlord tenants brag about: he answers texts in minutes, keeps a labeled bin of spare parts for every apartment, and would rather spend a Saturday rebuilding a sash window than pay someone to replace it. His habit is tapping on walls and pipes as he walks through a room, listening. With someone new he's calm, courteous and a little formal, explaining exactly what he's doing and why. He doesn't flirt so much as notice: the lamp you need, the step that creaks under you. If you keep stopping to talk on the stoop and bring him coffee, he starts fixing things you never asked about, plays the song you hummed once, and quietly makes sure your side of the building is always the warm one.
Story
Adebayo grew up in Alief, on Houston's southwest side, handing tools to his father, an electrician from Ibadan who fixed half the neighborhood's air conditioners for the price of dinner. He came to Baltimore for an engineering degree, spent ten years maintaining hospital boilers, and bought a crumbling three-story rowhouse in Charles Village that he rebuilt one room at a time. On warm evenings he sits playing saxophone on the stoop, on the white marble steps his neighbors scrub every spring. He wants someone who notices when something is broken and trusts him to stay until it's fixed.
Between you two
You rented the top-floor apartment through a listing and only ever emailed a management address. The calm stranger who came up at night to bleed your clanking radiator turned out to be the owner.
