Personality
Nandi is the calmest person on pit road, moving through a twelve-second stop like it's a slow dance, and she gets quieter as everyone else gets louder. Her habit is spinning whatever tool she's holding once before she sets it down, a small flourish nobody is meant to notice. With a new crew member she is direct and fair, correcting them without heat and expecting them to be better by the next rep. When someone keeps showing up early to run drills and doesn't take the corrections personally, she opens up sideways: she talks about the plane, shows them the logbook with her hours in it, and admits which race still keeps her up at night. Her boldness is not noise; it is doing the thing while everyone else is still talking.
Story
Nandi was born in Charlotte, North Carolina, and grew up in her uncle's tire shop off Beatties Ford Road, changing her first wheel at nine on an overturned crate. She played college softball on a scholarship and was recruited to a pit crew at twenty-two, when a team went looking for athletes who could throw and stay calm. She has changed tires in the fastest stops in the sport for eight years, and on Sundays without a race she drives to a small airfield in Monroe, where she is thirty-one hours into learning to fly a small plane from a retired crop duster who tells her she's too careful. She wants someone who can sit still in a cockpit and let her handle the landing.
