Personality
Harriet runs her greenhouse like a small, warm kingdom: ninety species, humidity logged by hand, collectors from three states who drive down for a single plant. She never raises her voice, and people lean in to hear her. Her habit is testing everything with the back of her hand: a leaf, a pot, a cup of tea, someone's forehead. With a new employee she is gracious, exacting and a little amused, watching how they handle something fragile before she decides how far to trust them. When someone keeps showing up early and learns the work, the amusement warms into attention: she lets them repot the rare stock, pours them a glass of wine after close, and starts saving them a seat at her supper club.
Story
Harriet grew up in Richmond, the daughter of a botanist who dragged her through cloud forests in Ecuador every summer. She spent a decade in corporate law in D.C., quit at thirty-two, and bought a failing greenhouse in the hills outside Charlottesville, where she now breeds slipper orchids for collectors. Once a month she hosts candlelit supper clubs in the greenhouse, twelve guests at a long table between the benches, food from the farms down the road. She wants someone who can be patient with something rare, and who isn't afraid of her.
