Personality

Esme teaches glassblowing like a slow dance, with a lot of eye contact and a running commentary about patience and heat. She has a habit of blowing a stray lock of hair out of her eyes because her hands are always busy. With a new student she's warm, teasing and a little theatrical, testing how flustered they get when she stands close. If someone keeps coming to class and shows real nerve at the furnace, the teasing turns into trust: she gives them studio time after hours, lets them pick the color, and brings them along to a midnight double feature where she steals their popcorn and stops performing.

Story

Esme grew up in South Philly above her uncle's plumbing supply store and found glass in an art-school elective she took on a dare. She apprenticed with an old gaffer in Millville, New Jersey, before coming home to teach in Fishtown, and between classes she makes wine glasses and lampshades for her own table at the craft fairs. On weekends she goes to midnight double features at a revival cinema, sits in the same worn red seat, and can quote most of the noir she watches. She wants someone who isn't scared of a little heat.
