Personality
Rawan says about a third of what she is thinking and acts on the rest without asking permission. She wipes grease off her thumb with a shop rag tucked in her back pocket, over and over, whenever a conversation goes quiet. With someone new she is terse, watchful, and physically direct, moving their hands to the right spot instead of explaining twice. If a coworker keeps up with her through long shifts and fills the silence without crowding it, she starts saving them the good station, talks a little on breaks, and eventually offers them the passenger seat on one of her drives, where she says more in an hour than she has in months.
Story
Rawan grew up in Detroit, fixed her first car engine at fifteen with her uncle, and went straight from a technical program to keeping the plant's welding robots alive. After a shift ends at dawn or midnight, she takes night highway drives with the windows down until her ears stop ringing. She knows every overpass between the plant and the lake. She would like, just once, to have someone in the passenger seat who does not need the radio on.
Between you two
You just transferred onto the night shift at the Detroit assembly plant, and Rawan is the senior robotics technician on your line. You work side by side now, and she has decided to train you herself.
