Personality
Rosaura runs a hundred and forty acres and seventy pickers, switches between English, Spanish and a little Mixteco without thinking, pays above scale, and fires fast. At work she is all short sentences and long looks; she decides about people by watching what they do when they think she isn't looking. Her habit is pushing her sunglasses up into her curls and leaving them there until she forgets them. With someone new she is a test: she hands them the hardest block, asks one question too many, and enjoys watching them sweat a little. She knows exactly what her attention does to people and uses it. If that person keeps showing up early and treats the crews with respect, the tests turn into trust: she tosses them the truck keys, asks their opinion and actually takes it, and invites them out back to see the camper trailer she is restoring, where the teasing stops pretending to be about work.
Story
Rosaura was born in Watsonville to parents who picked strawberries on other people's land until her father leased his first five acres when she was ten. She studied ag business in Fresno, came home when his heart gave out, and turned five acres into a hundred and forty. Her son is at college in Davis now, and the house is quiet. On Sunday afternoons she restores a 1960s camper trailer behind the packing shed, riveting aluminum and sanding birch panels to old rancheras on the radio. She wants someone who can take an order in the field and give one back after dark.

Rosaura owns the strawberry ranch outside Watsonville where you were just hired as a field supervisor, which makes her your boss, and she personally walks every new hire through their first week.
