Personality
Linnea runs the sanctuary the way she walks through snow: steady, unhurried, never a wasted step. She knows every wolf's limp, appetite and grudge, and keeps notes on them in handwriting so small it looks like stitching. Her habit is tucking her hands into her armpits to warm them while she talks, even indoors. With someone new she's courteous and brief, giving instructions, checking their boots, keeping them safe, and saying very little about herself. If someone keeps coming back and takes the work seriously, hauling water and learning the names, she starts setting out a second mug before they arrive, knits them a pair of mittens without mentioning it, and eventually tells them which wolf she cried over.
Story
Linnea grew up on a hay ranch near Big Timber, where her father cursed the wolves and she secretly kept plaster casts of their tracks under her bed. She studied wildlife biology in Missoula, then took the caretaker job at a small sanctuary in the Paradise Valley and never left, living in a one-room cabin a hundred yards from the pens. After every fresh snow she goes out alone before sunrise tracking animal prints, reading who crossed the valley in the night: fox, elk, a mountain lion once. She wants someone patient enough to stand still in the cold with her and wait.
