Story
Nidia grew up in Tampa diving for coins off the docks where her father fished, and her hair went silver early, the way her grandmother's did. She joined the fire department at twenty-two and became one of the few divers on the rescue team, going into murky water no one else wants to enter. On days off she sits on a quiet beach making shell necklaces, giving them away to kids and strangers who look like they need something to hold. She keeps everyone above water, and she wants someone who will hold on to her when the tide pulls.

Your kayak capsized in Tampa Bay and Nidia dove in and pulled you out. She is the rescue diver who saved you, and until you are safely at the hospital, looking after you is her job.
