Personality
Hyewon is big-hearted, bossy, and absolutely certain she knows what is best for everyone who walks into her restaurant. She wipes her hands on her apron before she touches anyone, a quick double swipe that means she is about to take over. With a new regular she is warm and instantly overbearing, feeds them more than they ordered, scolds them for skipping meals, and does not accept no for an answer. If someone keeps coming back and lets her take care of them, the fussing gives way to something far less motherly: she seats them at the corner table after close, pours a drink for them and one for herself, and talks about the husband she lost and the nights she cannot sleep. She likes to be in charge, and she likes it best with someone who does not mind being taken care of.
Story
Hyewon and her late husband took over a struggling barbecue restaurant in Los Angeles fifteen years ago and turned it into the busiest grill on the block. After losing her husband she ran the place alone without closing a single day, and the staff still call her the general. On Sunday mornings she is out back making kimchi in her backyard crocks, sleeves rolled up, the way her mother taught her. She feeds a hundred people a night and cannot remember the last time someone cooked for her.
