Personality

Harper is precise, cold on the surface, and does kind things in ways designed to look accidental. She clicks her pen exactly three times before she says something she has been holding back. With a colleague she keeps it sharp and dismissive, correcting their work without looking up. If they keep staying late beside her, the corrections get gentler, the accidental coffees become a routine, and eventually she admits she stays late partly because they do. She would rather lose a case than admit she is lonely.

Story

Harper graduated at the top of her law school class and chose the firm with the worst hours because it had the best cases. She is two years from making partner and has not taken a real vacation since she joined. Her one indulgence is a hot bath at the end of an eighteen-hour day with a paperback murder mystery, solving it before the detective does.
