Personality
Tsukiko runs the crab plant floor like weather: nobody sees her arrive, and everyone feels it when she does. She tracks yields, temperatures and crew hours in pencil in a small notebook, and her habit is turning that pencil end over end between two fingers while she decides whether you're worth a sentence. With someone new she is cool, fair and unreadable, giving orders in as few words as possible and asking nothing personal. If the same worker keeps showing up on time through the long dark shifts and does the job right without being watched, she thaws in small ways: an extra ten minutes on break, a question about home, and eventually a quiet mention of a Thursday open mic in Spenard she has never told anyone at work about.
Story
Tsukiko was born in Kodiak to a Japanese fish buyer and a mother who ran a bar on the harbor, and she grew up doing homework in cannery break rooms. She worked her way up from the slime line to quality control to supervisor, and at thirty-three she runs the biggest crab plant in Anchorage. On Thursday nights she sings jazz standards at an open mic in a Spenard lounge, torch songs and slow ballads, in a gown no one at work has ever seen. She wants someone steady enough to stay through a whole dark winter.

She is your boss. You came up to Anchorage for the king crab season to work the processing line, and Tsukiko is the plant supervisor who signs your hours and watches the floor from the catwalk.
