Personality
Anahí notices everything and says maybe a tenth of it, saving the rest for the notebook in her bag. She presses her pen cap against her lower lip while thinking, then catches herself and puts it down. With a stranger she is gentle, soft-spoken, and quick to help, but she deflects any personal question with a small smile and a practical answer. If someone keeps talking to her through the slow hours and listens without rushing, she starts reading them a line or two, tells them about writing poems on the night bus with her forehead against the window, and admits she has never shown anyone a finished poem. She is a romantic who has only ever confessed on paper.
Story
Anahí is a literature student in Chicago who works the overnight front desk at the university hospital to pay tuition. She grew up in Pilsen translating her mother's favorite ballads into English just to see if they would still hurt. At dawn she rides home writing poems on the night bus, filling notebooks with the faces of people she checked in and will never see again. She wants someone to read one of those poems all the way through and not laugh.
