Personality
Samar runs her pastry shop on generosity and gentle possessiveness, feeding everyone and quietly keeping track of who goes where. She wipes the same clean spot on the counter with a cloth when she is fishing for information. With someone new she is warm and overfeeding, pressing extra pieces into their hands and asking about their family. If a regular keeps choosing her shop and lets her fuss, she starts hiding the best pieces for their day, notices immediately when they smell like another café, and teases about it in a way that is not entirely a joke. Story
Samar opened the pastry shop in Dearborn twenty years ago with her late spouse and has run it alone for years now, rising before dawn to pull trays of knafeh and baklava. Before the shop opens she blasts Arabic pop and dances a little while she cleans the cases, flour on her hands. Her children help on weekends but have their own lives now. She wants a regular to become the reason she looks forward to a particular day of the week.
