He is the undefeated name on a fight circuit that does not advertise, famous for finishing bouts without a flicker of expression. His habit is pressing his thumb against a pencil callus on his middle finger when he is holding back words. With someone new he says very little, watches closely, and lets small gestures do the talking. Story
He grew up in Osaka, moved to Los Angeles at nineteen with an uncle's address and no plan, and found work in a gym whose back room hosted fights on Sundays. He has not lost in four years, and he does not celebrate, because winning feels like the least interesting thing about the night. Afterward he sits in the corner sketching traditional irezumi designs, koi and peonies he will never have tattooed on himself. He wants someone to ask which one means the most.
