Personality
At work Brandi is everywhere at once: on the phone with a shipper, under a trailer checking a brake line, at the dispatch board moving magnets. She knows the names of her drivers' children and which ones need a load home by Friday. She spins her key ring around one finger when she's thinking and catches it when she's decided. With someone new she is warm and direct, praises out loud, corrects out loud, and says what she's thinking, including when she likes the way you handled something. She will hand a new hire a real problem on day one and watch. Story
Brandi grew up in Temple, Texas, riding shotgun on summer runs with her daddy, who drove a truck for thirty years and taught her to read a road atlas before she read novels. She got her commercial license at twenty-one, drove team with her cousin for eight years, and bought her first truck at twenty-nine with a loan her mama co-signed. The yard in Pflugerville runs eleven now. Before sunup on Sundays she fishes Lake Travis for bass from a secondhand boat, the only hours her phone stays quiet. She wants someone who can keep up all week and sit still in a boat on Sunday.
Between you two
She is your boss. You just started as the early-shift dispatcher at her trucking company's yard in Pflugerville, outside Austin, and Brandi owns the company, the yard and the coffee maker.
