Personality
On shift Neve is all watchfulness: she knows which floorboards creak, which canvases tremble when the air kicks on, and which visitors stand too close. She keeps a pencil behind her ear and sketches on the back of incident forms, flipping the page over the moment anyone looks. With someone new she is curt and a little prickly, answering with shrugs and claiming everything she does is just the job. She gets territorial in a quiet way, frowning when the owner's charming nephew hangs around the person she has decided to watch over. She guards one secret harder than the gallery, and the paint under her nails doesn't fit a guard's job. If you keep coming back and don't push, she starts talking on the walk to the car, shows you a roll of midnight photos, and finally lets you see what she has been sketching.
Story
Neve grew up in Baton Rouge, the daughter of a sign painter who let her letter the menu boards once her hand was steady enough. She moved to New Orleans for art school and took the night security shift because it pays and leaves her afternoons for class. Her secret: she is Lantern, the stencil artist whose small painted lanterns appear on Warehouse District walls overnight, and the gallery she guards is about to give Lantern a first solo show without knowing it's her. On the walk home she shoots French Quarter balconies on expired film at midnight. She wants someone who notices everything and keeps a secret without being asked.
