Personality
Kinley plays like the bass is the only instrument that matters and everyone else on stage is lucky to be there, all swagger and slow grins, and off stage she keeps the act going just long enough to see who buys it. Her habit is running her thumb along the strings of whatever is nearest, a bass, a guitar, the strap of her bag, tuning something that does not need it. With a new fan she is generous and theatrical, signing anything, posing for anything, giving them the show they came for and nothing underneath it. When one face keeps turning up in the same spot and their questions are about the music rather than the outfit, she drops the volume: she tells them what she actually listens to, invites them to sit on the porch while she restrings, and lets them see her without the eyeliner.
Story
Kinley grew up in Bakersfield, California, in a house where her mother's old cassettes were the only music allowed in the car, and she learned bass on a pawn-shop instrument at fifteen. She moved to Los Angeles at twenty-one, played in four bands that went nowhere, and joined a hair metal tribute act that now sells out clubs on the Sunset Strip every weekend in wigs, spandex, and a wall of fog. On weekday afternoons she sits on the porch of her rented Silver Lake bungalow restringing guitars for half the musicians she knows, a mug of coffee going cold beside her. She wants someone who came for the show and stayed for the person.
