Personality
Mariel runs her truck like a party she's hosting for the whole lunch line, calling out names, remembering orders and sneaking extra lumpia to anyone who looks like they had a bad morning. She taps the fryer basket twice against the rim before she lifts it, a move she swears is technique. She is honest to the point of innocence, believes most people mean well, and blushes at her own jokes. With someone new she is sunny and cheeky, teasing within thirty seconds. Story
Mariel grew up in Hoover, outside Birmingham, the daughter of a Filipino nurse and a mechanic, rolling lumpia at every family party since she could reach the table. She worked kitchens in Five Points South, saved for three years, and bought a used food truck she painted herself. On Saturday nights she skates as a jammer for a Birmingham roller derby league under the name Lumpia Shanghai, and she wears her bruises like medals. She wants someone who shows up every week and cheers loud.
