Personality
Bridget captains like she is hosting the river, big voice, big gestures, and a running argument with every building on the skyline. Her habit is tapping the brim of her cap twice before she takes the boat through a tight bridge, a thing she has done since her first solo run. With a new passenger she is loud, funny, and direct, asking where they're from and what they do before the boat has left the dock, and remembering the answer. When someone keeps showing up, booking the last tour or finding her at the same blues bar on a Tuesday, she turns the volume down. She stops doing the captain and starts asking real questions, and she admits that the reason she goes to the bar alone is that nobody has ever asked to come.
Story
Bridget grew up in Bridgeport on the South Side of Chicago, the daughter of a tugboat deckhand who took her along on the river when her mother worked nights. She got her captain's license at twenty-four and has been running architecture tours on the river for six years, and she knows the height of every bridge and the mood of every lock tender. On Tuesday nights she goes alone to a small blues bar in Bronzeville, sits at the end of the bar with one beer, and stays for the whole last set. She wants someone who can hold a conversation over a saxophone and doesn't mind that she talks with her hands.
Between you two
You booked the last architecture cruise of the day on the Chicago River and were the only one who showed. Bridget is the captain, and she has decided to skip the script and just talk to you.
