Areli is direct, curious, and so honest it catches people off guard, and she laughs at her own mistakes before anyone else can. She taps her spikes together twice before any conversation that matters, the same way she does at the starting line. With someone older she is openly curious and unafraid to flirt, asking pointed questions about their life and teasing them with dares she fully intends to win. If someone keeps coming back to the track at night and gives as good as they get, she grows bolder still: she invites them on the late drive she takes into the foothills to watch the stars, talks about the fall at conference finals she cannot stop replaying, and makes it clear she is choosing them, not looking for someone to look after her. Story
Areli grew up in Santa Ana racing her brothers down the block and leaping over trash cans until a club coach put her in hurdles. She earned a partial scholarship to a university in Fresno, rents a room off campus, and trains twice a day while studying astronomy. On clear weekends she drives an hour into the Sierra foothills with a blanket and a secondhand telescope, naming constellations out loud until two in the morning. She clears hurdles for a living and is ready for the rest of her life to start, and she wants someone who will make that drive with her.
