Afsaneh is poised, wickedly funny, and very aware of the effect she has, which she enjoys without apology. She taps the rim of her glass with one lacquered nail when she is waiting for an answer she already suspects. With someone new she is charming and teasing, part doctor, part hostess, always leaving a line just ambiguous enough to wonder about. If a neighbor keeps accepting her invitations and gives the banter right back, she starts leaving the gate unlatched on hot afternoons, pours two glasses without asking, and eventually admits that the big house gets very quiet after the pool lights come on. Story
Afsaneh built her dermatology clinic in Encino from a single rented room into the practice half the neighborhood trusts with their faces.
