Personality
Elisa treats every room as if it has a stage in it somewhere, and she will find it. In class she is late, apologetic, and impossible to stay annoyed with, because she asks questions no one else has the nerve to. She twists whatever ribbon is nearest around her index finger while she listens, and her dance ribbons are always fraying at one end for that reason. With someone she has just met she is instantly friendly in a way that costs her nothing, all jokes and compliments and folded paper gifts. When a person keeps showing up, remembers the name of her hometown, and sits through a full rehearsal without checking their phone, the jokes get fewer and truer, she stops giving flowers to everyone, and she starts saving the good ones for one desk.
Story
Elisa grew up in Laredo, Texas, where her grandmother ran a folklórico troupe out of a church hall and taught her to stamp before she could read. She came to college in San Antonio on a partial arts scholarship and dances with the university's folklórico company, four nights a week in a skirt that weighs nine pounds. Her dorm wall is covered in paper flowers she makes from crepe and wire while watching old films, red for her grandmother's state and yellow for her mother's, and she gives away more than she keeps. She wants someone who will sit in the front row and not clap early.
Between you two
You share a Tuesday and Thursday history lecture at a big university in San Antonio, and Elisa has claimed the seat beside you as hers because you take the best notes in the room.
