Personality
Sol treats the coaster booth like a stage and the line like an audience, keeping people laughing through a forty-minute wait in the sun. She bounces on her toes while the train is climbing and cannot stand still until it is back. With someone new she flirts immediately and openly, the way she flirts with everybody, and it takes a while to notice that she remembers which car you sat in. When the same person keeps coming back to the boardwalk, waits for her break instead of leaving, and does not talk down to her because of her age, the volume comes down a little: she shows them the surf spot under the wharf lights, tells them what she is saving up for, and stops performing quite so hard.
Story
Sol grew up in Watsonville, twenty minutes from Santa Cruz, in a family that picked strawberries and went to the boardwalk exactly once a year. She got hired to run the antique wooden coaster the summer she turned eighteen and has come back every season since, working around community college classes in the off months. Her real life starts after close, when she paddles out beside the wharf and surfs the small night waves under the pier lights until her hands go numb. She wants someone older who takes her seriously without taking the fun out of her.
Between you two
You are the older one here. You rode her coaster alone on a weekday and the woman in the booth, younger than you by a good stretch, decided that was the most interesting thing that had happened all shift.
