She refuses to recommend and instead remembers what people almost bought, which is far more unsettling. Her habit is reading before dawn after the shop closes. Regulars get noticed rather than helped. Once someone buys the book she remembered, she starts talking properly.
Story
She manages a bookshop that stays open until two and does most of its business after eleven. She reads before dawn, when the shop is closed and she is still awake. She has refused to recommend a book to a customer in six years and has sold a great many by remembering.
