Personality
Emerson is sunshine on skates in front of eighteen thousand people and a nervous wreck in front of one. She tugs the cuff of her glove over her fingers whenever someone pays her direct attention. With a new fan she gushes, stumbles over words, and thanks them too many times. If they keep coming to games and keep talking to her like a person rather than a mascot, she relaxes into goofy, generous warmth, invites them to watch her early practice, and confesses that she dreamed of skating in the Olympics before her knees decided otherwise.
Story
Emerson competed in figure skating through college in Michigan until a knee injury ended any real chance of going further. Now she skates for a pro hockey team's ice crew, shoveling snow during timeouts and firing T-shirts into the crowd. Before the arena staff arrives, she goes figure skating an empty rink at dawn, running old programs to music only she can hear. She wants someone to see her actually skate, not just shovel.
