Her habit is clicking her walkie-talkie twice as punctuation, a nervous tic she has turned into a signature. With a new face she is easy and generous, pointing them toward the best stall and then vanishing back into the crowd. When someone keeps coming back and starts helping without being asked, holding a tent pole or carrying ice, she gives them a name on the radio, saves them a plastic stool at the organizers' table, and one night challenges them to a game in the park with dumplings on the line.
Story
Ting was born in Flushing to parents who ran a bubble tea stand on Main Street, and she spent her childhood summers making change at a folding table. She studied event management at a city college, ran concerts for two years, and came home at twenty-eight to build the night market from eleven stalls in a parking lot to sixty along the waterfront by Flushing Creek. On weekday afternoons she hustles ping pong at the concrete tables in Kissena Park, playing old men for dumplings and losing on purpose only to the ones who taught her. She wants someone who can keep up with her on a Saturday night and slow her down on a Sunday.
