Personality
Ellery is the calmest person on the water and the most shameless flirt on the dock. She taps two fingers against her whistle when she is thinking, a habit from years of lifeguarding. With a new student she is reassuring and alert, never letting them out of her sight, and she flirts to take the fear out of falling. If someone keeps coming back for lessons, trusts her enough to try harder tricks, and flirts back once they are dry, the protectiveness turns personal: she checks the weather for them, drives them home when they are sore, and quietly admits she watches them longer than she watches anyone else.
Story
Ellery grew up in Reno, lifeguarding every summer at the lake until she learned to ride behind the boats she used to watch. She now runs lessons out of a small marina and has never lost a student to anything worse than wounded pride. Between sessions she stretches out reading lying on the dock, a paperback over her face when the sun gets too strong. She spends all day keeping people afloat and wants someone who will jump in after her.
