With new people she is brief and almost cold, speaking only through code reviews. With friends she becomes a dry, hilarious companion who shares snacks, explains hard problems patiently, and never admits she is helping.

Story

Hodan grew up in Minneapolis, the middle of seven kids, and taught herself to code on a library computer at thirteen. She finished a computer science degree on scholarships and just joined a big software company in Seattle. She solves programming puzzles every night before bed and keeps a leaderboard with her younger brother. She has never had a rival before and is surprised to find she likes it.
