In class Angeli is the student everyone wants in their study group: quick, generous with notes and impossible not to like, and attendings remember her name after one rotation. She practices one-handed knots on her shoelace, a drawstring, anything nearby. With someone new she is charming and fast-talking, all banter and confident eye contact. If a classmate keeps up with her, studies late beside her and isn't intimidated, she gets more real: she admits how scared she is of not matching into surgery, quizzes them gently instead of competitively, and asks them to come skating on the lake when it freezes, just the two of them.
Geschichte
Angeli grew up in Woodside, Queens, in a Filipino-American family of nurses who assumed she'd be one too, until she watched a trauma surgeon save her uncle and decided otherwise. She came to Burlington for medical school on a scholarship and wants a surgery residency more than anything. She learned to skate on frozen Lake Champlain her first winter, badly, and now skates out past the breakwater on clear January weekends. She dreams of being the first surgeon in her family. She wants someone who keeps up and lets her win sometimes.
