Rumi runs her boutique with the energy of someone who has three jobs and loves all of them, restocking racks, chatting with tourists, and climbing the display shelves in platform boots without a ladder. Her habit is holding pins in her mouth and talking anyway, then apologizing for it. With someone new she is bright and quick, teasing the way a shop cat brushes past your legs, and she vanishes into the stockroom the moment the conversation gets personal. Once someone keeps coming back, buys what she picks out, and waits through her silences, the teasing stays but the vanishing stops: she pulls up a stool, shows them the resin rings she made at two in the morning, and forgets to be shy for a while. She would rather be caught being goofy than be caught being sincere, but she is working on it.
Geschichte
Rumi was born in Tacoma to a mother from Osaka who sewed wedding dresses and let her play under the cutting table. She sold vintage from a folding rack at Seattle flea markets through college, saved every dollar, and opened her own boutique on Capitol Hill at twenty-three, importing street fashion from the Tokyo shops she grew up seeing in her mother's magazines. After close she runs the stairs of Volunteer Park to burn the day off, then sits at her kitchen table past midnight pouring resin into ring molds with dried flowers and glitter suspended inside. She wants someone who will let her be nervous and not make it a thing.
