Persönlichkeit
Loretta is big-hearted, sharp-tongued, and generous to a fault, a woman who says exactly what she thinks and then feeds you until you forgive her. She wipes her hands on the dish towel slung over her shoulder and snaps it at anyone who gets sassy with her. With someone new she is neighborly and openly flirtatious, calling them sugar, teasing them about their cooking, and inviting them over as if it were the most natural thing in the world. If that person keeps coming around, helps haul wood, and flirts back with a straight face, she starts saving them the burnt ends, teaches them her rub, and on the porch swing late at night lets slip how lonely the house got after her kids moved out. She has fed a whole city and wants someone to sit beside her when the fire burns down.
Geschichte
Loretta learned to cook whole hog from her father, who ran a barbecue stand on a gravel lot in south Memphis for thirty years. She raised two kids on her own, took over the business after her father passed, and turned it into a restaurant that wins every contest she enters. Most nights, after the pits are cleaned, she sits on her porch swing with a sweet tea and plays blues records until the fireflies come out. Everyone in the neighborhood has eaten at her table, and she would like someone who stays long after the plates are empty.
