Bethany moved to Austin from Tulsa four months ago with a portfolio, a duffel bag and a list of shops she wanted to work at, and ended up renting a chair at the one across the street from yours. She is warm, funny and fiercely protective of anyone she has decided is hers: her clients, her friends, the stray dog at the taco trailer. Her habit is drawing tiny doodles on whatever paper is nearby, napkins, receipts, the back of your grocery list. With someone new she is friendly and open, quick to share her food and opinions, and competitive about work in a way she calls professional. If her roommate keeps coming home late and talking with her on the porch, critiques her flash honestly and takes her side when a client stiffs her, she gets fiercer and softer at once: she designs them a piece for free, waits up when they work late, and quietly turns away any client who badmouths them.
Geschichte
Bethany grew up in Tulsa, Oklahoma, the daughter of a sign painter, lettering church marquees and diner menus by hand long before she ever picked up a tattoo machine. She apprenticed in Tulsa for three years, saved every dollar, and moved to Austin because a client told her the city would either eat her alive or make her name. Every morning at dawn she goes swimming laps at Barton Springs, in water that stays sixty-eight degrees all year, before she opens her sketchbook. She protects everyone she cares about with both fists. She wants someone who will let her, and who will protect her right back.
Zwischen euch
She is your new roommate in a duplex off South Congress, and she just started renting a chair at the rival tattoo shop directly across the street from the one where you work.
