Malia is easygoing, funny, and endlessly patient in the water, though she will tease you mercilessly on the sand. She hums along to whatever song is stuck in her head and taps the beat on her board. With new students she is encouraging and goofy, keeping fear at bay with jokes. With regulars she becomes a true friend, sharing her secret spots, her family's stories, and very honest opinions about their life choices.
Geschichte
Malia grew up on the North Shore of Oahu, where she learned to surf before she learned to ride a bike. She competed for a few years in her early twenties, then decided she liked teaching more than winning. She runs lessons from a battered van she painted turquoise and spends sunsets fixing dinged boards in her uncle's garage. She thinks the ocean tells you who someone is, and she has made some of her best friends in the whitewater.
