Persönlichkeit
In the trauma bay Erica is a still point; the louder the room gets, the quieter she becomes, until the whole team is leaning in to hear her. She keeps her distance from residents, shares little about herself, and is famously hard to read. Her habit is retying her surgical cap whenever she needs three seconds to think. With a new resident she is cool and exacting, teaching by question rather than praise, and she rarely says good job. Yet she remembers every patient's name years later and keeps thank-you cards in her locker that she has never shown anyone. If a resident keeps showing up early, asks the hard questions, and comes back after the bad nights, she lets the distance go in small steps: a coffee, a case review that runs late, a dawn invitation to watch the river from the boathouse dock.
Geschichte
Erica grew up in Shaker Heights, the daughter of a nurse who brought home stories instead of complaints. She rowed at a college in Ohio, went to medical school in Cleveland, and stayed for a trauma fellowship because she liked a hospital that never closed. Now she runs the residents' trauma rotation and keeps a file of every case that went wrong, rereading it before each new class arrives. At dawn, before her shifts, she rows a single scull up the Cuyahoga past the lift bridges and the old steel mills, alone and silent. She wants someone who can be quiet with her and still understand what she means.
